Hello,
I am new to AirBnb. This is my first time hosting.
A guest recently booked my place, however, is now cancelling.
She has told me that she has tried to cancel, however, her refund comes up 80 Euro short. Is there a reason for this? The guest is looking to me for answers.
Kind Regards,
Yelena
Probably the Airbnb fees. Those are never refundable.
Hi,
Thanks for your quick reply!
The cancellation was my fault, however. (It's my first time hosting and I use Smart Pricing which set the prices as rates that were way too low. We amended the price, and the guest therefore had to cancel as she could no longer afford to stay).
Does this have to be paid back by me?
@Yelena3, if you asked the guest to cancel you definitely need to refund them, as it was your fault. In fact, you should have been the one cancelling but your calendar would have been permanently blocked for those dates, also you would have to pay a fine. Refunding your guest is a cheap option! You are lucky they agreed to cancel.
Hi Sandra, thanks for the message.
Yes it was a very unfortunate situation. Luckily I got a break from Airbnb as it was my first time hosting.
All turned out well, everyone got their refunds, my calendar was unblocked, and most importantly the customer was very understanding.
Guest need to rebook doesn't matter how much the refund was.
The shortfall in rrefund will be the guests airbnb booking fee, which is non refundable. However, if you cancelled the booking because of smart pricing you will need to ask Airbnb if they will adjust this fir you as you are a new host . Generally a host cannot increase the price of a confirmed booking, so if a host is unhappy about smart pricing, then its always better not to use instant book and you have better control. You need Airbnb Help.
