Security Deposit Refund

Hello,

A recent guest keeps asking how and when he will be refunded his security deposit money. Can anyone help? As I've not had this issue before, assume it is refunded automatically, but he left two and half weeks ago...

Thank you

Hello @Charlotte10,

You should message the guest to contact Airbnb if they have a question about payments.

There should be contact details on the booking confirmation message that they received.

All financial arrangements are between the guest and Airbnb.

The guest is not charged the security deposit when they book. They are charged only for the accommodation.

Airbnb may put an authorisation for the amount on the guest's card. If so this is automatically removed if the host doesn't make a claim within 14 days of checkout or before the next guest checks in, whichever is sooner.

How does Airbnb handle security deposits?

What happens if a host makes a claim on my security deposit?

Steve.

Hello,

I am having the same issue right now with a guest who stayed last weekend at our ski house.

She is asking for a refund, but when i look at the reservation, the security deposit ($500) doesn't look like it has been officially charged.

How can i make sure they she has never been changed the security deposit?

If she has never been charged a security deposit, why do we call it a security deposit then?

Thanks for your help,

celine

I agree that the the Security Deposit is misnamed, not sure what it should be called.

Airbnb put a hold on the money on the  security card. They don't actually take it out, only if the host makes a claim. Just like when you rent a room the hotel takes a print of your card or when you rent anything.  No money has been taken. Make sure this is not a scam.  Maybe Airbnb are just slow in releasing the hold over their card. Has nothing to do with you. Send them to Airbnb.
