Hi there! just had a nasty guest who flooded my apartment with the shower! They must have left the shower hose pointing towards the door(3 feet away) that leads into the kitchenette as the carpet was sopping wet? Even a bit of spillage from the shower tray would not have flooded the shower room and then spilled into the kitchen, soaking that room too!!!! Not sure what to do about next guests arriving?? have had 1 night to try and dry the place out, borrowing a dehumidifier. They did not inform me until after they left, saying they had a lovely time and it might be a little wet still. Once I investigated, I found it flooded! When I asked her what had happened I got a nasty message saying it was my fault because she felt the shower tray was inadequate? Surely guest should have to report a problem straight away so that I can do something about it? (it is written in house rules to inform me immediately of any accidents so that they may be rectified or fixed) She  left the front door open and spilt whole cup of tea of the carpet and didnt clean it up. - How would you get compensation for that? And what can I do with the next guests if it is not dry in time??

Do most people have a security deposit to safeguard themselves??

Please help if anyone has any advice?

Only been hosting for just under 3 months. - Everyone else has loved the place and been brilliant.

Hi @Joanne448 from a fellow Devon host.

Do you have a security deposit already? Have you taken photos of the damage, and do you have photos of your shower tray because someone is bound to ask!

Heating on, windows open, blot up what  you can.

Did you review her yet?

@Joanne448 I would take pictures and send a message to airbnb as soon as you noticed it. If the place hasn’t been cleaned/dried in time for the next guest, you’ll have to phone airbnb and let them know. Airbnb can contact your next checkin and help them find another suitable place. You’ll be able to request reimbursement from the guest through airbnb. Perhaps hire someone so you have an invoice and receipt. If you have a carpet cleaner they work great to suck water out of carpet and it will clean the tea spill.

Thanks for your responses Mike & Helen, also Katrina. I have had to take this one on the chin! Lucky I had a day & night to mop up, dry up , borrow a dehumidifier, put the heating on & open the door & window! I was so frantic to clean up I didn't take pics. The couple who came in next, we're brilliant once I explained what happened, they said before they left, there is no way you can manage that unless you use it as a wet room! It's good to know that Airbnb can reschedule guests in a crisis though,(I didn't know that) I am not great at computers & my helper in with the technology side of things is away.  Thanks for your support.
