My guests have just checked out and left a large red wine stain on a pillow slip and the pillow protector underneath. They must have realised they had made the spill because they placed it underneath clean pillows and bedding.
If they had made an effort to try and clean it, take it off the pillow or even simply owned up to it, I would have been fine about it.
I am trying my best to get the stains out.
If I can’t, should I make a claim through the resolution centre or just leave it?
When this is sorted , how can I write a review to recommend them to other hosts ?
It’s a shame because other than this, they were ok .
When something is damaged, I look at it and say to myself, would I put in a claim on my own insurance policy.
I wouldn't claim for this, not worth the hassle.
I would mark them a 3 for cleanliness and mention it in the private feedback only.
Accidents happen
Nope, like @Jeff158 I'd let it go. The cost of running a business, @Nicola542.
Great Mumbles view!
I wouldn't put in a claim, but a lot of hosts do claim all damages; I would however give them a negative review and low stars because while it is true that accidents happen, you should be truthful, not try to hide the damage you did.
Thanks to all who have replied.
I have managed to get the stains out .
On reflection I agree with the comments made , that it isn’t / wasn’t serious enough to put in a claim had I needed to replace any bedding.
I think 3 * cleanliness is probably about right, but right at the end of the review do I recommend yes or no ? Still not sure .....
if you would host them again then recommend them. If you wouldn't then don't 🙂
Personally, I hate when they stain something and don't tell me what is the stain from, it makes it much harder and more time consuming to figure out how to clean it. Even worse hiding it and hoping I will not notice!
I'd recommend 'no'. I'm fed up with guests who break and destroy stuff and then try to hide it - are they adults? All I ask is that they let me know so that I have a fighting chance to repair or replace prior to the arrival of the next guests.
I would not host again someone who made a large, obvious stain and then took pains to hide it. That is different from leaving weird stains on the sheets that they probably didn't even notice, or being messy in the kitchen or bathroom or even breaking or staining something and telling the host about it. It is dishonest, an active attempt to evade responsibility.
I also would not recommend, not because of the stain but because of the deception. It's completely disrespectful-- not only did they try to evade responsibility, but had you not found and addressed the stain future guests would, and this could damage your business. Nobody needs guests who behave this way.
