Should I offer a refund?

Hi everyone, I had a unique situation this week. I have been hosting for over four years, but I have never had this happen to me. My guest had made a booking for the past week. He let me know we'll beforehand that he would not be checking in on Friday, but two days later on Sunday. He texted me a day or so before his booking to remind me of this and to say "consider me checked in". He arrived on Sunday as he had planned to do. Today, (Wednesday) he texted that he will not be returning, since my place was pretty far from the office he was working from. He is a good guy, very complimentary about my place. But, he only spent three nights here out of the total 7 that was booked. He is just going to let the rest of his booking lapse. Also, I have not had an inquiry or booking in several weeks, so this is my only April guest.

So, knowing all this, do you think I should offer him some money back?

@Kate157  When I looked at your listing pictures and what is said in the reviews, I experience you, your husband and 2 dogs as a wonderful caring hosts!  I know San Francisco, having travelled there a lot while I was working, and your price is extremely reasonable so guests get a lot of bag for their buck!  His letting the time run out without asking for a modification has not allowed you to book anyone else, but you said you weren't that busy.  It's his choice and his reason for leaving early appears to be his unfamiliarity with San Francisco and how far away parts of the city can be from one another.  I don't vote for a refund in this case.

Ditto what @Linda108 said.  His work is probably reimbursing him for the entire stay anyway.

I'm with @Cynthia-and-Chris1 and @Linda108, if somebody can make an Aibnb booking they should be able to Google map how far they are going to be from their office. It's not an excuse that he doesn't check on the distance.

People certainly have the right not to sleep there if they don't want.  You did everything right.  Don't worry about offering a refund.
