Someone broke into the flat while guest were staying.

Hi everybody,

Someone has broke into the flat while guest things where inside, laptop and money has been stolen.

They have call the police and they now asking for some type of compensation as their things has been stolen, has airbnb any type of insurance to cover this??

What can I do??

@Eva2, Do they have travel insurance? This is applicable to that, I should think. Many VISA car holders have automatic limited travel insurance, sometimes without the cardholder even knowing about it.

I have lost many things on travels, and it has always fallen to me and my own insurance (should I have some) to cover losses.

Thank you for the Visa suggestion I will ask them. Obviously they don't have any insurance and the want me to do something about it. The forgot to lock the security gate and they are saying that I never told them that they have to do that. As if it was my fault.

I might be seriously jaded, but do you think someone really broke into the flat?

What kind of reviews and sense of person do you get from these people?

If I was a sleezeball, it wouldn't be hard to act like my stuff got stolen and 

then cash in on replacement.

This is what happen to me Today on my second out 10 days on my flat. 400 dollars and a couple of Bose headphones. I am in Paris in a small flat where can I hide them. My story.

I checked in into my flat in Paris on Friday afternoon. There are to secure doors that needs a combo to get into the building and they a key to my flat. When you close the door is locked and if you look it with the key then is bolted. Been out of the apartment twice and today I noticed that my two Bose headphones are gone and 400 dollars in cash. He says that they have two sets of keys and one is in the office and then ours. He gives us the keys. Then gets another set out of his backpocket and show us how to double lock the door, and tells us that a worker might be coming over later today to inspect on some roof damage. Needless to say our 400 dollars and two Bose headsets are gone. We were just going to used them and looked everywhere and nothing then I went to check on my inside pocket of backpack and 400 US dollars are missing as go in to put more money that I changed for my nephew. No money so right away I send a message to the host. It's late now here in Paris. I don't know if this has happen before but it just happen to me. We are upset it's my nephews first trip out to Europe mom goes out buys him an expensive Bose wireless headphones and gone just like that. And I have the same flat for 8 more days as we just started a reservation for 10. I am also a host. And I am no sleaze ball but it did happen. I Hope that doesn't happen when someone is staying at my home. Jesus

You need to report the theft to the Police and your Travel Insurers.

Basically not your issue, might have a case if they could show negligence on your part but that would be very hard to do.

A matter for their own insurers.
