I live 9 minutes drive to the biggest employer in the City of Everett and the biggest employer in the whole of Washington State. This summer (3 months), Boeing has internships open and so there were many college graduating students who applied for the intership. My Airbnb therefore was a hot! Unknowingly, however, I didn’t know how many students Boeing was hiring so I made a Special Offer to one who requested to stay in my place. I made a Special Offer with $1,000 discount thinking that it is better for me to get a sure guest. I was expecting that Airbnb will pay me the whole amount 1-2 days after my guest checked in. I was going to put a downpayment on a small house for rental which was $3,000. (The small house I was buying was $6,500 only). NOPE! Airbnb was not even paying me the whole amount. They divided the money they got paid in full by three minus their fees. I was so disappointed. I should have just maintained my regular rate without offering a Special Offer....That means that Airbnb makes money with the money of guests while we, the hosts gets the crumbs.
Airbnb should make an exemption to hosts like us who have good reviews. They should pay us the whole amount so we can re-invest it and make improvements to our Airbnb’s! Had they gave me the whole amount, I would have another room for rent right now- win for Airbnb and win for me, as a host.
Should we get paid the whole amount if we know that our hospitality, value and convenience are better than most hotels and we already know by statistics that our guests don’t cancel after checking-in???
