Special offer payment discrepancy

Hi everyone,

I recently worked out a discount with the person who's going to be hosting me for 2 months, and he sent it to me as a Special Offer. We agreeded on $1500 a month, but when I received the offer, it was coming out to $1597 a month. I sent him a screenshot of what I saw and asked about the discrepancy with what we'd talked about, and he send me back a screenshot showing that he'd sent it to me as $1500 a month. So why is Airbnb adding an extra $97 a month?

On reason I'd thought of was that I'm in Canada and my host is in the US, so perhaps they are including a currency exchange fee. But my payment method is a US credit card, and when you calcuate 3% of 1500, it only comes out to $45, not $97.  Even if you added the 2% Airbnb fee of $30, it still doesn't add up.

Does anyone have an alternative explanation for the discrepancy? Both my host and I are not sure what to do.

Thanks,

Daniel

HI Daniel, is this not just the service charge that Airbnb add on to the host's price?

Well I thought they only charged the host a 2% service fee (in this case $30), but your comment led me to look it up, and I guess they charge the guest a 6-12% fee (https://www.airbnb.ca/help/article/104/what-are-guest-service-fees), so that must be what it is. Quite annoying, but thanks for pointing that out!
