Star ratings don't match up - very confusing!

Hi

I'm relatively new to this... the top of my ratings says I have 100% 5 stars but then lower down I have some 3 (location) and 4 star ratings (cleanliness which I think is down to not following them round with a duster as the bathroom is spotless when they check in) - is that just a private rating for me? Are people knowingly leaving me 5 stars in one place and 3 in another?

I did contact the 3 star location guest and politely ask what the problem was and she said that she had given me 5 stars for everything and was upset at the idea that she'd left 3 stars and then said there was a question about whether she tought a car was essential for the area.  So do the guests even know they're doing it?

One 4 star for cleanliness also left a 'sparkling clean' compliment.

I'm finding the whole star rating set up to be confusing and contradictory.

My current guest is a repeat customer so I was thinking of asking him if I can see how he fills out the review pages. (In a nice and freindly non-scary fashion!) I'm sure he won't mind but it's been bugging me and I just wondered if anyone actually knows what on earth is going on?!

Thanks in advance!

Jenny

@Jenny751

only "overal" rating counts for statistics. Everything else like cleaning, location etc... doesn't

Overal rating has nothing to do with other ratings, it is a separate rating, not the average of all.

Thank you for your reply 🙂

I was wondering why the reviews seem to contradict themselves and if when the guest fills out their feedback if it's simply a star rating system for everything or if there are some actual questions as well that airbnb then equates to stars later on.

I'll find out at the end of the week!
