SuperHost? Whatever...

I need to vent.  We rent two homes on an island known being a party spot.  It’s not easy... we deal with drunk slobs, big messes, and situations that arise that are difficult to address quickly because of the location.  But we try our best.   This isn’t our day job and we live an hour away plus a 20 minute ferry ride to the island.  We care.  We try hard.  We are responsive hosts, we are constantly making repairs and little updates (all new mattresses this year.)  But no matter what we do... some people are not going to leave a 5 star review.  They treat it like they are comparing us to a ritzy hotel and we are a manufactured home built in the 90’s.  That is very clear in my description of the property, by the way.

So, we’ve had mostly 5 star reviews, but a few 4 stars plummets your score.  It’s very hard to raise it to a 4.8 after that.  We lost SuperHost.  We have worked hard this whole tourist season to please our guest.  We’ve had mostly 5 star reviews.  Finally, a few days ago, we hit 4.8 again and I was so excited.  The SuperHost review is in just a few days.  Now, today, we had a guest give us 5 stars in every category and then a 4 overall.  Seriously, what’s that?!?!   Now, we are back to a 4.7 and no SuperHost.  Something seems wrong with this system.

@Cherilyn4 As long as your place is still getting booked, why do you bother about getting the Superhost status?

I found that some listings always rank high while the host is not a Superhost.

Take it easy and happy hosting!

@Mike1034 Easy for you to say with your shiny little SuperHost badge.  I hope you know I’m just kidding.  :-).

My husband says the same as you, but it’s just really annoying to open my page and see an alert that my listing “needs attention after receiving a low score,” just because it wasn’t a five star when I put in the effort.  Some people are never going to give a 5 Star, no matter what you do or offer.

I think I just need to not worry about it, as long as the reviews are decent and the calendar is filling, as you said.  I was just venting.

Thanks!

I agree we work really hard. we have had all 5 and then 1 person said we had too much furniture on the porch rated us a 4. That is harsh. I feel like it was because they didn’t review and got pinged so many tines by Airbnb to “help out the host by giving constructive criticism” that that was all they could say was bad. Bummed.
