Trying to accept a booking but guest says the dates aren't showing

Hello, I have a pending guest request but I haven't accepted it yet, (but I haven't declined it yet either).  Now I have another person who would like to book during that same time, --and I'd rather have this new person make the booking.  But he says the dates aren't showing up as available.  But the other person's request is still just pending, and I never said to block those pending dates.  I don't understand.  Will I have to decline the first person to book the person I want?   I was trying to avoid that...   Please advise. Thanks so much.

A request reserves ("blockes") the dates, so no other request can be made for same period, unless you decline the pending one. Best regards, Emiel
