Is there any way to address a security breach issue? Have been calling the customer service and nothing. $1,600 have been drained from my account for four reservations that I have never made. Unbelievable how unresponsive Airbnb is! Looks like I will have to take them to Court.
@Renata181 that must have been a very unpleasant shock to discover!
When you say you have been "calling the customer service and nothing", what do you mean?
Are you not able to get through to customer service, or you did get through and explain the situation but they haven't done anything yet?
This is correct. I have addressed the issue last saturday morning, when I was told I would be receiving a call shortly and of course never received a call. When I called to follow-up the representative told me that the reason why I was not contacted was because the first representative forwarded the case to the wrong department and she would make sure to address it properly. Then today a new call to make sure it has been addressed and guess what? The case has not been touched according to the new representative. The reason: It was not flagged as a priority. I am tired of excuses, excuses and excuses while Airbnb made 4 unauthorized charges to my account (380+390+481+481 - Even more than $1600). This is unaceptable. How many representatives do I need to go through to have this issue resolved and having the money that was stolen from me back? Excuse my language but this is just frustrating. If Airbnb is not capable of providing the proper level of security to their accounts, they should at least be able to resolve things like this on a timely manner. This is my mortgage money and I wonder if Airbnb will be held accountable to reimburse any late fee and interest that may occur.
Looks like that today the transactions have been refunded. Still pending. Thank you.
hi Renata
Did Airbnb resolve your issue ?I was charged for $190 two days ago.The same situation like you went through. I didn't authorize the transaction. I've called the representative but still not sure what to do next
@Lu66 This not an AirBnB issue you need to dispute the charges with PayPal or your credit card company. Your account or credit card has been compromised.
If Airbnb uses your bank account you should change that to a credit card or PayPal for a higher level of protection. You can dispute charges at the bank, credit card or PayPal and the bank or card provider will contact Airbnb, charge them back and intervene for you. If you put money into PayPal manually to cover your purchases and don't allow them to charge your card without a confirmation from you then there is a limit to what you can lose. Fraudulent credit card charges have a limit (like $50 or so) and most cards don't even make you pay that if a scammer accesses your card.
If the charge is fraudulent then you are protected by the credit card policies but if someone takes money out of your bank account it may be harder to get it back. You might still get it back but if it is an individual and not a company like Airbnb it might not be retrieved for you by the bank. Then the bank's policies of reimbursement for fraud will take place of the charge back.
I had identity thieves steal checks from my mailbox and write them for various items and services in my town. Bank reimbursed all of the money even though the thieves were broke (and in jail.) Then the bank went back to the stores that took forged checks without proper ID verification and the merchants had to pay back the bank. It ended up that the thieves stole from the merchants and not from me. The merchants could have avoided the thefts by checking ID and verifying the signature. One of the thieves signed my name spelled incorrectly although it was printed on my check. The other thief signed their own name and presented their own ID but the merchant did not record the driver's license number, just checked off that they viewed it when they took the check. Bank did all the work after I reported fraud to them.
I also today have a charge to my PayPal account for 787.00 I never authorized this, I contact Paypay they said there investigations was that I did authorize bull **bleep**... what do I do now
I have the same issue, an unauthorized booking was made on Airbnb and my PayPal was charged with 462,47 euro. Airbnb can easily see that it was not my Airbnb account that made the booking, so my PayPal was used (meaning hacked) by someone else, but still refused to cancel the transaction. Paypal cannot detect any unusual activity and points at airbnb to be responsible for the cancellation. Airbnb and PayPal are not safe to use! You lose your money and get no protection for fraud or being hacked!
