Unfair Review!

Unfair Review!

Hi, I am a new host. My house is located in an area where there are mosquitoes in the summer time. I've never thought much of it and I've always just worn bug spray or stayed indoors if they get bad. I've had 4 people stay with me so far. All of them have left great reviews on everything EXCEPT they docked points because there were a lot mosquitoes outside. I feel that it is unfair for people to dock points from me for something that is comepletely beyond my control. After the first complaint I left bug spray and Afterbite for guests, but they still feel like it takes away from their experience. What am I supposed to do about this?? Feeling a little put out by it.

Thanks for any help!!

Let it pass. I have been dinged because it was windy during their stay:( Some guests are just clueless and lack common sense. Simply leave a factual response to the review that will inform future guests.

And I cannot see anything unfair about that review.  There are mosquitoes - you said so yourself. I would not be surprised is a guest would mention the fact.

I would also include the information about when mosquito season is in your profile and/or when you respond to a guest's booking.  I'd just say something like:  If you've never been to this area at this time of year be aware that we are in mosquito season.  I provide lotions and sprays to help keep them away and keep the inside of the house free of them by keeping doors and windows shut.

I feel like guests are less likely to ding you if they know in advance what to expect (the good and the bad). And that you have a plan to help them be more comfortable.

Obviously staying at another Airbnb in the same area would still have the same mosquitos so I don't see that informing them would risk any bookings.  I think they'd appreciate the heads up.

Good luck!
