Uploading selfie for verification

I rec'd an email last evening asking me to upload a selfie for facial verification. I have already provided a government issued ID, all of my personal information as well as banking information. When I read thru the instructions on verification it makes the comment "you MAY be asked to take a brand new photo of yourself".... and "IF you are asked to take a photo of yourself"....which indicates to me it is not an across the board request. I am the only one who is questioning why after being an Airbnb host for almost 5 years that I need to prove who I am even tho they have all pertinent information which would verify my identity. If you read thru their facial recognition description it is not a 100% process so the selfie uploaded may, in fact, not match your gov't id because of changes (aging/weight etc). Has anyone questioned what the repercussions are if they don't match? Are we no longer a trusted host because we don't match a GOVERNMENT ID???

I've recently received such email and I hate these emails because the process it's often a pain. The user experience it's always horrible.
For example I live in Germany but I'm Italian and as EU citizen I can live everywhere in EU without necessary have a German ID, so I remember companies where I've upload an Italian one and every time it was rejected because they wanted a German one and then tons of email to explain them what had to learn by themselves before.

Other companies allows ID provided by difference countries, so if you are a foreigner it's not a problem, but someone wants also a photo took from your smartphone in order to match the ID, which is just another stupid source of pain, because than it happens like the Spain host here on Airbnb in another post.

He had upload his ID and then took a photo and the system rejected the photo saying that it didn't match with the one on the ID and to take one that match XD
How you can take a photo that match when the ID was provided for example several years ago? (my drive license expire in 10 years...)

A friend of mine went to this this exactly process  for a bank account, but at least, when the system didn't recognize her selfie matched with the ID photo, an agent called and they solved there.
Dunno what will happen with Airbnb, let's see
