What do hosts do when guests damage things?

I know you can submit a request money for damages, I just wonder how often other hosts do this? For instance, earlier this year I noticed a couple of pieces of silverware missing. I don't count each spoon, fork, etc. after each guest leaves. There was no way for me to know who lost the silverware. In fact I didn't know until I received a review that I needed to upgrade it. This also happened with my pans. I had guests ruin a nice sauce pan. With all of the things we do when cleaning, inspecting pots and pans isn't usually on the list. I've found broken glass, and guests say nothing. I provide high quality towels a guests ruin them. Do other hosts feel this is an overhead cost of doing business? I'm just curious. I've only filed a claim for reimbursement when a guest broke the garbage disposal and a bathroom faucet. I just don't want to be that "picky" host that is always complaining about guests and filing a request for reimbursement. Thanks in advance for your input.

@Celestina6  Claiming for small things like a few pieces of silverware, a broken plate, some stained towels and so on isn't worth the hassle and will almost certainly lead to a bad review by the guest. You have to chalk that stuff up to the cost of doing business.

Don't buy kitchen gear in sets which can't be matched. Either go mix and match, or buy simple dishes that are always available and which you can purchase by the piece. Non-stick cookware isn't good in an Airbnb because it can so easily be ruined. Stainless steel is  good choice, hard to destroy.

And I don't know for sure, but I would imagine that if a host is always claiming for little things, when they have a very reasonable claim, like a broken garbage disposal, that it may not be granted so easily.
