What is this special South Korean message I have never received?

All I get are inquiries but no instant bookings from Korea.  According to a thread in Hosting, hosts are getting messages about special rules and discounts for Korean guests.

do South Koreans have a sort of 'diplomatic immunity"? Is it true that they can cancel reservations even after checkin and get their money back? And they don't have to offer government ID verification and do not instant book? Isn't that dangerous to hosts? Is that why no one from Korea has instant booked with me and claims they are unable to do so? I have no problem with a korean guest (an airbnb roommates girlfriend was Korean and I told him she was welcome) but the lack of accountability is weird. How would South Korea like it if America decided their visitors to Korea did not have to obey the law in Korea?

. My information is that the South Koren Fair Trade Commission has required that Airbnb modify the Strict Cancellation policy for Korean guests.

Here's how it works:

  • All listings with Strict Cancellation policy will appear as Request To Book to South Korean guest, even if the host has turned on Instant Book.
  • If the South Korean guest toggles "on" Instant Book when searching for listings, only listings with non-Strict Cancellation policy will appear.
  • When a South Korean guest attempts to book a listing with a Strict Cancellation policy, Airbnb will trigger a (host-facing) modified request to the booking flow disclosing the South Korean Strict Policy, giving the host an option to accept or decline without penalties.
  • If hosts rejects the modified cancellation policy, there will not be any hosting violation/penalty imposed to the host.

So the bottom line is that if you have a Strict Cancellation policy and also have Instant Book enabled, South Korean guests will not be able to book instantly and instead will have to send you a Reservation Request.

I hope this helps clear things up!
