When an "Available" listing suddenly becomes "Unavailable" when you try to book...

I've had this happen several times and wondered if anyone knew if this is a scam... I'll find a listing I like. It shows as available for the dates I want it. I request to book and receive a message from the host saying "I'm sorry, this listing is currently unavailable... but I have this other one..." and it's always more expensive. These all seem like legit Airbnb listings but how are they allowed to have a property listed as "available" for dates when it's not?!

@Ashley705 I haven't encountered that, but it does sound scammy - like a bait and switch. I would consider reporting it to Airbnb using the little flag icon. Hosts should be keeping their calendars up to date.

@Ashley705 This happened to me over and over again when I tried to book a place in Sydney a few years ago.

@Ashley705  Yes, it does sound scammy.  Once in a while someone will make a mistake and forget to block dates or something, or airbnb also glitches out.  But, 'this listing isn't available, but I've got a more expensive one' sounds dodgy.

@Ashley705  Yup. This is a common scam. When this happens, use that REPORT this LISTING button to make sure that AirBNB knows what is happening. It doesn’t help you, but it will help future travelers.
