Winter slow down

I'm in Portland, OR and I have a feeling the winter will be tougher to find guests. This  is my first year hosting. Any other Portlanders who can share their experience? Are you still getting bookings, maybe not so much from tourists? And on this note, how do you handle the dilemma of  a short booking being in the way of a longer term? Meaning, I have for example bookings for a few days on Thanksgiving already and new years. Let's say a traveling nurse would like to stay for 3 months through the winter, do I cancel the short term bookings to be able to accommodate this? Thanks!
