becoming a host

Hi there,

My name is Vanessa and I was hoping to get in-touch with a person or two so I could ask a few question about how to start as an Airb&b host. I understand the basic how to as far as registering and listing but I had other questions. I currently own a 5 bedroom home, with a baby room, 12 person hot tub and a downstairs entertaining space. My house has two rooms with each with a king size bed, the master has a private bathroom and walk in closet. The other two rooms have a queen size bed and the 5th room is a nursery. The only thing is my location, I live in Chilliwack... just down Chilliwack lake road. There is a lot of fishing in the Chilliwack lake area and a ton of tours available, white water rafting is another popular attraction. My house is 10 minutes from Cultus lake, swell as the waterslides and 25 minutes from Chilliwack lake. My biggest question is whether or not someone would rent a space this big in the Chilliwack area. If so, the other questions I have are in regards to making sure that I set myself up for maximum success. I do have another place to stay so my house will be available to the guests privately - My husband passed away in April, being that I a a  29 years old, single mom to a one year old baby, my house is getting expensive and I would really like to try and keep it. At least until the market is a little higher. and my husband passed away in April, I don't want to lose my house and if this is something I can do to help supplement my bills then I would really like to try.  So there ya have it, if there is anyone interested in helping me it would be greatly appreciated. This is why I was hoping I could get in-touch with a Super Host, someone experienced to ensure maximum potential.

If it is possible for you, here in Community, many hosts could help

When you have many rooms, i think that you could have more listings, a list for each room. 5 bedrooms = 6 listings. 1 listing for each room, which means 5, in addition to 1 listing that contains all rooms if you have a guest group. Also you could see these links :

Hi Vanessa,  there is quite the learning curve to getting the hang of hosting.  I think every last host here in this community forum has his/her own list of mistakes/things they made/wish they would have known when they first started out.  I think you should post your questions here in the forum to get as much input as possible from a variety of hosts as opposed to taking the advice of just one person.  There are literally thousands of seasoned hosts here who have been an incredible source of information and help to me when I first started hosting.

One suggestion I would make, given that you are a single mom with an infant, is--what kind of guest are you looking to attract?  Families? Couples?  Mostly people traveling solo?  Are you comfortable hosting single men in your home?  This is a concern of many single female hosts who prefer not to host male guests traveling alone.

Best of luck to you,

Ann   🙂
