blocking off bookings and not responding to approve/decline

Hi - I might want to take a break from Air bnb in a couple of months. Is it better for my ratings to just block off some time or decline a request when it comes in and it doesn't suit me?

Also I have had 2 people who I have not approved - does this matter? One woman is not verified and I don't want to approve her, but declining seems harsh as she seems a bit clueless about air bnb - though now she seems to have disappeared. The other booking seems to have gone quiet. Can you just tell me if ignoring these approve/decline messages affect my ratings?
