cleaning

Hi I was wondering if it s part of the policy that a guest cleans the house so it is the same condition as when he arrived.

Thanks!

Not really. They aren't going to change sheets and make the bed for the next guests or wash and fold towels etc. the best you could ask for is they strip the beds, wash used dishes, and take out tue trash.

Louis,

You can request that the guest do that in your "house rules" but I have found that not everyone reads those carefully... and generally my guests have cleaned up after themselves. Most even remake the bed, which is nice, but I have to change the sheets anyway... I charge a nominal $10 cleaning fee which covers the laundry cost as well as the cleaning supplies I use... and part of it goes towards the weekly cleaning service that comes to our home.

Just my $0.02 but if you are looking for guests to literally clean (like the bathroom or other common areas) to make it ready for the next guest, that would be a hard sell for me if I was booking your place...

As a guest I would expect a property to be cleaned prior to my arrival. The problem with asking guests to clean up after themselves is that they might not do so and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it, you can't impost it on the guest. Also different people have different standards of cleaning; a guest in someone else's property is not going to clean it on the same level as the host or a paid cleaner. If I arrive as the new guest and find it has not been cleaned properly, I would reflect it in my feedback at best or at worst depending on the mess I would ask to cancel and  for a refund.

It is your responsibility as host to ensure your property is clean and ready for the nest guest; it is not the responsibility of the departing guest. I would suggest that if you do not have the time to clean the property yourself, that you employ a cleaner. Airbnb provide an option to charge for cleaning, add that to your listing and be safe in the knowledge that you or a cleaner is providing a clean property to the guest.
