It seems to me that the whole idea behind Airbnb seems to have got lost. I am a host of 4 years. My philosophy (which I thought was shared by Airbnb) is to share my home with others. I've used Airbnb myself over the past few years and have only once (out of dozens of stays) have I met my host. He actually lived there. The rest of them didn't live there and provided me with a whole list of instructions as to how to access a key to the place. This is not what i thought Airbnb wa all about; Meeting a host who lives at or near their place you are staying at , who is available, friendly and can give you info about the place you are visiting. So I now find myself recieving reviews (as a guest) from peple I have never actually met. What is going on here? Any one who shares my concerns please contact me on [Email hidden]

commercialization is what happend... and not just that... today people just run from one place to another and stay 1 day here , 2 days there... and they call it hollidays.
We are not live in hosts and majority of our guests are just polite enough to endure the check in process , get the keys and AC instructions and to escort us to the door. We don't see them or hear from them any more and at the end they just do the self check out before we arrive to clean.
But, sometimes, rarely, we get guests who are interested at something more than keys , who asks questions about the city and places to go, who would drink a coffee with us in a small caffe accross the street and chat with us before we leave ... and those are real ABB guests and we like them 🙂

Thanks farah, very interesting. And somewhat depressing. Perhaps there is scope for us to start up our own Aibnb!!
