insurance and damage to property

Hi there,

I am a first time host and a little confused about the insurance that Air Bn B offers.

If there is substantial damage to my property-worst case scenario a fire for example.Do Air BnB cover me for this?

My property is only available for rental over the August holiday period as it is our family home and we always go away during this month.

My own Home and contents insurance does not cover me for guests staying in our house.

Would any of the UK hosts know what would be best to do in terms of insurance-what is standard practice?

Would you know if there is any temporary insurance out there that you can pay to cover the homeowner over a short period?

Thank you

Jamie

I'm not a UK host, so can't point you to other options, but please don't make the mistake of thinking the "Host Guarantee" is any kind of insurance policy. It's much more of a marketing response to the couple high-visibility vandalism/theft/squatting issues Airbnb hosts have encountered. No doubt it has helped out some hosts, but it will not be a replacement for your regular homeowner's insurance. You'll definitely want to seek some other form of short-term vacation rental insurance.
