When I was a new to AirBnb I did not fully understand the reservation system and policies. I was looking for a several-month stay locally, and wanted to make sure the place was appropriate given the time I would be staying. The host had me sign a sublet agreement and then cancelled the reservation I had made, and wanted me to pay her directly. It was an uncomfortable situation, I was in a bind, and I did not, as I said, understand AirBnb - especially the value of the protection they offer guests and hosts. Needless to say, it was a terrible experience. My suggestion is to educte this person - don't assume they are trying to game the system - they probably just don't know what the system is.
