question about the physical location of the booked house

Hi

I have booked a house for 2 months.  I got the exact address from the host after 48 hours. It showed up that the physical location of the house is approximately 2 kilometers away from where it is originally situated on the Airbnb map. It means that we will be 2 km more away from the beach, we were not planning to rent a car, so we will have to go by foot for 20 more minutes than what I was expecting. We have a little child so it is not so practical. I haven't contact the host yet because I would like to know what is the policy. What shall I do now when I am not so satisfied with the location? I can't cancel and get all money back because 48 hours has already passed. If I cancel now, I will have to pay for 30 days.

Please help

@Susan17 I have never been able to change the address. I can see why Airbnb would prevent this but I still check every now and then. I've been wanting to add/change an indicator to make it easier to identify an apartment.

I just checked, and I don't have the ability to change the address now either. Could possibly be that I'm doting, and perhaps it was with CX help that I changed it previously. I've called them so many times about the location issue, that I've lost track now!

One thing I did notice when I went in to check the address, is that the box you tick for your address NOT to be revealed to guests until after the 48hr grace period for cancellations has passed, had unticked itself, so I had to re-set that. Does anything ever function as it should on this site? Screenshot_20191017-141217.png

@Helen3 Could you share a screenshot with us showing the button where you can edit the adress by your own.

I don't see it in my own dashboard.

And just think about what it would mean to be able to relocate your own listing every time you want. Opens wide doors for fraud.

As long as your listing is not a caraven, a new adress means a new listing.

I didn't say anywhere that you can edit the address @Denis-Mark0  I said you can move the location pin on the map.

I can't move the location pin  @Helen3. I could it once at the beginning. Now, if I click on the map, nothing happens. That's why I asked you to share a screenshot that explains how to change at least what mean. For better understanding.

@Svetlana142 Having set the location once at the beginng, a host can only change the direction by contacting the customer service.

@Svetlana142

Most likely, this is indeed a technical issue, and no fault on the part of the host (unless they claimed in their listing that the apartment is actually physically located where it's pinned on the map, of course!)

According to Airbnb's map, the location of my own listing has mysteriously moved all over Dublin at least 50 times over the past several years - on a few occasions, by up to 5 or 6km away. Drives me utterly demented, and every time I get them to change it back, it just wanders off by itself again a short while later.

Do contact the host, as there's a good possibility that they're totally unaware of it. Then, if you establish that the location has indeed been misrepresented - either by the host, or by the Airbnb system - you have every right to a penalty-free cancellation and a full refund.

@Svetlana142  A guest get the exact address after a booking is confirmed. I am wondering what the address is in your booking confirmation email?

If the exact address is not shown on the confirmation email, and you got it from the host after 48 hours, you can call Airbnb to cancel it. If the address in the confirmation email is different from the address the host gave you, you can also call Airbnb to cancel it. Otherwise, the host may not be at fault. And you may incur cancellation penalty due to cancellation policy.

As an address I got an area (quarter) and then link to a place on the map where the house is not situated, but rather it is the center of the village. Then I asked her for the actual address. I got it but it was 2 kilometers away, and at that point the 48 hours already passed.

@Svetlana142  Here is a screenshot of email of the booking confirmation after I booked an Airbnb.

The blacked line is the exact street address. You should have received the same after your booking. And it also shows in your Trips in your Airbnb app.72DB8406-574D-4303-BC39-90998DFBB4C6.jpeg

as you can see the address is the whole entire village

@Svetlana142  I would suggest you to call Airbnb support about this. The host is supposed to provide the exact address in the listing, which is revealed to guest after the booking confirmation.

You may have a good case here to have Airbnb cancel it and find you a new place. Do not cancel it yourself because 48 hours have passed.

Here's an aerial map of the region where @Svetlana142 has booked accommodation.

It appears as if most of that area is very much beach and countryside so perhaps that's why the Host may not have been able to or has the correct pinpoint and why the village is pinpointed - perhaps that's the closest landmark to their home.

Whilst I can appreciate a 2km walk with a young child to the beach may not be the easiest, why don't you ask if the Host can provide transport to the beach?
They may even know someone who has a car you can use whilst there.

You'll be fine @Svetlana142 and things will work out.

Message your host & remember that Mauritius is an island so will be on Island time and perhaps they don't have as good internet as others are used to.

All the best for a fabulous holiday
