why can't we warn potential renters about dishonest hosts? I just got totally screwed by a host, and there is nowhere but this community page to let others know to stay away from them. this will probably be the last time
i use Airbnb. there needs to be more accountability.
So I rented an Airbnb for my family and I to go visit my grandparents in a super small town. When I went to ask the owner a question about the parking he decided to cancel the reservation, make that the date as not available for only that day, through another Airbnb account List the same apartment, change the location of the Airbnb (still within the same town) and then Double the price Per night. He is located in Nemocon, colombia and he goes by the name William Alexander/William Helmet
Yea. I see here that a slightly negative review of a host may prompt the host to fabricate lies and even in my recent case, report me and try to get me thrown off the platform. AirBnB says “he has a right to his experience,” which is bizarre and unapologetic. This host has defamed me, and made my excellent reviews from other hosts somewhat suspect. He got airbnb to take down my review, which is laughable. I had complained about a problem w the toilet, and I had asked him four times to fix.... also that I spent $150 on a pillow top for his broken 1970s mattress, and his dangerous old-fashioned tub, which is very difficult to get out of, even though my middle-age husband and myself are in very good shape. So, I wonder what would happen if I tweeted airBnB. Other companies are responsive to tweets.
I just got linked to a fake Airbnb website. They ask you for photos of you and your licensed. It’s on the web. If you try to book something and they ask for photos don’t do it. They’ll get all your info.theyll message back and forth to you for at least a week trying to get you booked and it will never work. If you google the customer service phone number for Airbnb. The big number that shows up in blue is not the real number. It’s scammer trying to help you but the booking never works
I agree! My host is totally unresponsive and it is proving impossible to get my money back, i cancelled due to corona virus. Airbnb is unhelpful nowhere can i find a link to contact them re this dishonest host.
disgruntled! never will i use airbnb again
@Sylvia583 There is a large pinned post on the first page of this Help forum you posted on "Contact Airbnb" that gives you phone numbers and other ways to contact Airbnb. Also, a simple Google search comes up with pages of phone numbers.
Same is happening to me right now and there is nothing I can do , I am stuck in a dump fro 4 more weeks , no refund and impossible to report it ,
Based on the excellent reviews on airbnb site we rented this location with Airbnb. We trusted the website and reviews . A Superhost place. A rare Find it says on the site. After a few days the nightmare started. Defective appliances, fridge stopped working , lamps, TV , internet , kitchen cabinet falling apart , dishwasher came of the kitchen counter and fell on me loaded with dishes , walls under repairs , pot and pans not clean , bugs in the bathroom and ants in the kitchen. Basically the place was under renovation. Paid in advance on credit card impossible to get a refund.
@Alain908 What do you mean "Impossible to report it?" . You're never "stuck" somewhere that's unacceptable. Did you not contact Airbnb when all the issues presented themselves, if the host wasn't responsive to fixing things?
I have contacted Airbnb and reported the situation, I also sent video and pictures of the place, I have contacted many times the Host by phone , email , and in person, they never fix the place . I still have a month to go , Airbnb told me that if I want to leave I have to pay half of the remaining days which is $1600 $ . I don't have to money to pay that and move to another location and pay again .

We are in this situation since April 14 and the HOST did not fix anything , he is laughing at us because he is getting paid anyway and AIRBNB told me to deal with him to the the apartment fix.
A friend of mine posted the pictures on his facebook account look at it

We have again wrote the Host because they have not fix anything yet here is the message we sent them :
Good morning, I hope everything is well with you. It has now been 20 days that we are in your apartment, still , the refrigerator has not been fixed , nor the dishwasher and the kitchen lamp fixture. We are documenting everything to make sure we will have an accurate review at the end of our stay. We have also started a timeline on online social media. Thank you.
@Alain908 You had my sympathy until you showed a video of a spider (and I think a fly on the ceiling). I don't think its even possible to stop spiders entering properties and we certainly have them in our property.
One or 2 is Ok but many of them on regular basis is not normal and plus, why they refuse to fix the place ?
Is it how it works ?
@Alain908 It's one thing if the appliances don't work, that's unaccptable, and yes, the place looks like it could definitely use some TLC- the host obviously doesn't stay on top of things. But most of the stuff you photographed is just cosmetic damage- the place doesn't look filthy, and some badly patched walls or places where there are damages doesn't really affect your stay, except visually. And the host isn't responsible for stains on the outside steps of an apartment building.
And yes, insects are part of the world we live in- if you leave the patio door open, then flying insects can enter. That's a fact of life. That insect on the bathtub isn't a spider, it's a cranefly- totally harmless and they don't "infest·" a place, because they are outside creatures, they don't make a home indoors, but they can fly in if given an opportunity. I'm sure he'd much rather be outside than disorientingly trying to climb up a bathtub. You could have just caught him in a jar and put him back outside.
When you have legitimate complaints, like appliances being dysfunctional, it just waters down your case when you photograph or complain about things like a harmless insect or some stains on the front steps.
I'm just guessing here, but is it possible that you got a really cheap deal, yet expected some luxury apartment? And is there some explanation for why your profile says you've been a member since 2016, yet have not one review as a guest on your profile?
@Sarah977 Exactly. Nowadays it's so CHEAP for guests to blame hosts about anything, thanks to Airbnb's bias.
