I have a reservation which should be 150 including 6 pounds airbnb fee yet their quote is 172 pounds. Why would this be?

Odd. What's your base rate? Do you have Smart Pricing turned on? Any weekend or seasonal rates applied? Cleaning fee?

Sounds like you did not take into acount the fee the guest pays ABB.
