should we clean a rental apartment weekly if guests stay for 2 or more weeks?

We have been hosting via Air BnB since May of 2017.  For the first time, we have guests in the rental apartment who will be staying 13 nights.  In November, we have guests staying for a month.  Is it our responsibility to clean the apartment, change the sheets, provide clean towels each week?

@Mari79, from what I understand, housekeeping is not usually part of the service provided by hosts through AirBnB, but some people do offer to do some cleaning during the booking. I do not take longterm bookings, so my understanding comes from looking at others' postings and listings. It seems the preferred approach for many/most is to provide enuogh cleaning supplies so that longterm guests are able to manage basic housekeeping on their own.

Hosts are responsible for ensuring the space is clean and tidy (including clean linens and dishes) at the START of the booking - the rest is up to the guest.

@Mari79

It's really a matter of preference BUT as a host who has more long term guests (than short term), I would suggest weekly or bi-weekly sheet change and an quick vaccum+tidy up. It is a way to check if your guests are abiding by your house rules in a natural way~ 🙂 but make sure you inform your guests about this in advance and clarify what is included in the weekly clean up vs. what the guest is responsible for.

Personally, I handle sheet changes and laundry of sheets and towels for guests because I don't want them ruined due to improper washings or misuse. I include in my description that host may enter the guest room to change sheets and vaccum or to open or close windows as needed. And my nightly cost takes all of this into consideration.

I haven't had any complaints about regular cleaning yet and my guests have never taken advantage of my regular housekeeping activities. Clear comminication to make sure expectations are managed will be important.

Good luck!

Hello @Mari79,

Nice to meet you!

I'll go with @Jessica-and-Henry0 on this one.

When I was still hosting I've also had a long-term guest staying for about 1 month. I had a chat with him beforehand on what his preferences were in regards to the clean bedsheets/towels and other essentials. We agreed on having the sheets changed every 5 days.

Happy hosting @Mari79
