verifying host age

Is a guests  ID verification confirmation that the guest is 18 and over?

Airbnb requires that to have an Airbnb account, a person must be 18 years old. But I don't know how that is verified (or if it is) by Airbnb, other than some one checking the box that says "I am 18 years old or older".

Thanks so much. Shouldn't Airbnb be the ones checking otherwise what does verifying exactly mean?
