Pet fee

Pet fee

Allow us to add a pet fee! It's more cleaning time when a pet stays and more risk also!

Response from Airbnb

This is a great suggestion and matches our thinking on ways to give hosts more flexibility in offering services. We are actively working on a solution to enable hosts to include individual charges for special services, such as extra cleaning for guests with pets or other features of a listing that may require more effort from the host. We will have more to share on this in the first part of 2018.

In the meantime, you do have the ability to request additional funds from your guests after their reservation is confirmed. From the reservation page, click “Send or Request Money” and indicate the amount of your pet fee. This will send the request directly to your guest so that payment can be processed through Airbnb. Be sure to include a mention of your pet fee in your listing description, as well as a follow-up message directly to the guest, so they know why you are sending the money request.

We rely on your input for improving Airbnb and take these suggestions in Host Voice very seriously, so please keep the great ideas coming.

Totally agree! I have my property also listed on VRBO and they have options to add pet fees and they collect taxes for us, SO much user-friendly. Additionally, they have live CSR available 24/7 for assistance especially when you are green like me to vacation renting. I was looking everywhere on Airbnb trying to locate information on payments specifically how to add taxes and pet fees and FINALLY came across this community blog. Now, I realize I have to go through extra steps in order to get this done. Thank you guys for your posts.

Hopefully Airbnb get these features added pretty soon!

I have had a few pillows chewed by pets and although we welcome them, it would be nice to be able to add a small pet fee like in VRBO to cover small damages..

This is an email I received this morning from Airbnb. A guest sent a booking request and I responded.  This Airbnb person says that I am NOT allowed to charge for pets!

Very strange experience.

Hello ,

My name is Marc and I am a case manager with Airbnb
I hope this email finds you well

I am contacting you in regards to your reservation with Atvi that has been cancelled by your guest

In the message thread I can see what happened and I had a look on your listing homepage and description as well

The first thing was that you have put "pets allowed" on your listing homepage which means that you must not charge guests for the dogs and treat them as additional guests

Futher- in regards to the shot records, you host would have to mention it on their listing homepage as well. You informed your guest prior to the reservation being accepted but - since he did not reply to this information which would have been a good thing to do- you accepted his request

Of course your guest should have replied bit if a guest does not, it is more a no than a yes especially if it is about additional charges

In this case it is a violation of TOS and I had to refund your guest in full

a $20.00 per night pet fee is standard in Canada. I really need a pet fee drop box. It is causing lots of communication issues with clients that is no fault of client or host!!!!!!

We absolutely need Airbnb to create an easy way for guests to add their pet(s) and accompanying pet fee(s) at the time of making a reservation in the exact same way additional guests can be added with accompanying fees. Pets are an integral part of many guests lives and without an easy way to add them (and their accompanying pet fee) Airbnb is losing out on this revenue stream, as well as frustrating guests and hosts with unncessary time wasted in attempting to communicate the logistics of how to add pet fees into the reservation.

ability to add a pet fee to a reservation that is bringing pet "Prior" to booking would be so NICE not only for host but knowing this upfront for the quest is a huge advantage.  As a guest myself that travels with a dog I look for this option, and it makes me think twice after seeing a rate and then finding out I have to now pay more?

Come on AirBnB you already ask the question so it should be an easy addon done the same way you charge for additional person per night.

Yes, I agree: Airbnb needs to have a button for adding Pet Fees (my policy is currently $25/night/dog). I would like to be able to do all of the finances online and not have to ask people to pay me cash on the spot for pet fees. Pets do add to the cleaning required as well as the liability of damage to your home. Please add a Pet Fee button to the pricing page! Thanks!

Absolutely agree that a pet fee needs to be option.

I need to charge a pet fee on Airbnb, just as I do on every other site on which I advertise. I haven't found a way to add it either, so I ask each potential guest if he/she is bringing a pet. Then ask for a separate payment (by check, if necessary) to be mailed to me prior to their checking in. We'll see how well that works. But I'd much rather have a way to list it. Do the Airbnb folks read these suggestions?

Sent a revised quote to guest for the pet fee discussed and agreed to via email prior to booking. Guest did not accept. Sent payment request through Resolution Center only to find out I can only request through there one time So if damages are done, I cannot make a claim against the security deposit  Sure hope the latter isn't true and claims can be made if necessary. Leaves us in difficult position to cancel their stay and negatively impact out host rating for something we gave every opportunity to comply with,  or let them stay and absorb cleaning, damage and liability risk of their 2 dogs. A simple box for  such a common occurrence as bringing a pet, sounds like the most professional way for both AirBNB and the host, and avoids additional disputes and leaving bad feelings on both sides about the company.
