A guest stayed however did not pay!

I had a guest stay; I thought I had approved her, however she asked for my street number. After she arrived I noticed she had canciled and rebooked 4 times and when I accepted the last booking it says the guest has not approved and I am awaiting payment?

Oh dear, @Jodie3, sounds like everybody was confused about the status of the reservation.  I would contact Airbnb to see if they can still charge her credit card account.  It is very important not to provide your listing address until after a reservation is confirmed.  Not saying that this happened here, but I've heard stories of "guests" scamming hosts this way.  Get the address, show up, never pay.

Here's how to contact Airbnb:

Hope you get this resolved!

Hi there @Jodie3, Sorry about this, you may have no redress because as you have realised, you had no booking.

  1. A safe way to reply when a guest asks for directions is to refer them to the emailed Airbnb itinerary and their online trip information under "Your trips". You don't need to give out this address information via your direct Airbnb email.
  2. In future, monitor all your threads and emails, as well as checking the reservation confirmations sent to you via Airbnb.  They are usually very reliable and quick to update.
  3. This will not be the first or last time a guest is struggling with their booking transactions and is confused about the stae of proceedings. It appears as though you were both similarly in the dark. As a host you have the weight of responsibility to guide your guest through the booking process.
  4. The fact that the guest could not see your address is a sign that they have not got a booking yet, or that they haven't read their itinery. Both issues need to be addressed.
  5. Learn more about managing activities onsite by regular reading of  the FAQs in your spare time.
  6. Checking how the booking request and acceptance is going via your Airbnb dashboard should prevent future occurances of this situation.
  7. On a more positive note, if the error was a genuine one by your guest, then they may agree to make a new booking for a vacant date which has the equivalent tariff. This would allow you to receive payment and get a review. [Although the date would not match the actual date of the guest stay, plus it might not be ok with Airbnb.]
  8. So you may be back to square 1 and chalk this one up to experience as your legitimate window of opportunity to charge this guest via the Airbnb website has passed, and you must not ask for any payment offline. That's contrary to policy.

I hope this information is helpful and sounds friendly and encouraging.

Regards, Christine.

Lastly, perhaps you might still ask your guest to write you a reference as they cannot write a review, and I assume you looked after them well.

AIRBNB DID NOT COLLECT MY MONEY ALTHOUGH THE GUEST STAYED 4 DAYS

I have contacted AIRBNB multiple times with NO RESPONSE. Arre they trying to collect my money? What is the policy?  I have not been able to get an answer.

@Leslie298  If AirBnB does not get paid, you do not get paid. The guest could have removed their payment method, credit card company declined payment or they did a chargeback. It can sometimes take weeks for this to happen and AirBnB to notify you that you will not be paid for this stay. If you go to your Transaction History you will see the payment as pending in all likelihood. I would not make plans for this money to be spent in the near future.

Does AIRBNB do anything to collect my money? If not, I will attempt to collect it myself. How can I get contact information for the guest? She stayed a few weeks before and paid so they must have credit card info. I should have the opportunity to take her to small claims court.

@Leslie298  To do that you need to have proof she stayed. In cases like this the reservation may just disappear from your inbox, so make copies of it all now. This is one of the reasons you should have a signed rental agreement and a copy of their government ID. Then you would win hands down in a small court claim. AirBnB does not give you the opportunity to fight a chargeback either.

Hi@Jodie

I can’t imagine how this guestvslipped through thecajr bnb payment process as usually it’s a case of

NO pay= NO stay.

Id be on the phone asap to air bnb.

Also someone who has cancelled and then rebooked again several times would have been a Red Flag for me.

I have called, emailed, chatted and have not gotten any answers. Terrible customer service so far.
