In October 1582 Pope Gregory XIII introduced the Gregorian Calendar. It became universally accepted until September 2018, when a company called Airbnb decided to change the month structure and made the month of September 50 days long
@Gillian19, @Giulia297, @Ute42, you all are too funny. And it really isn't funny when you get into one of these stupid situations and there is no one there. I never thought I'd be in this pot myself.
If any one of you finds SOMEONE to talk to to solve any kind of problem (be really nice), let us all know?
Yuck. I have involved too many people in the organization and am getting nowhere. Time-difference is also an issue? I'm not going to whine about it here, but it is a mess.
And YES, Gillian, I have some to spare! WOW, 117 nights! Tell me you're not on Instant Book. I don't do that. ;-))
Best,
@Giulia297 I swear I have never seen worse programmers than AIrBnB has hired. I just shake my head on so many, like the pet friendly rather than using the Yes Pets allowed for the sort they use the No Pets thus people that have not said one way or the other end up in the Pet Friendly seach only to be told no by the host. They have no logic which is the number one requirement for a programmer. I have a theory on another issue related to the credit card declines that could straighten out half of that mess at least. It relates to booking sites of AirBnB i.e. Booking on AirBnB.ca with US address is an example the zip codes requires more digits than the US AirBnB.com 5 digits site gives to match cards billing address, some credit cards foreign currency policies will reject payments and if the billing zip code for business travelers using company cards is different than what your profile zip code is it's rejected. For people with a 4 digit zip code the work around is to enter a 0 (zero) at the beginning in the 5 digit code and most of the time it will go through. There are so many issues with easy fixes if they know what they are doing, but going back to fix the issues is a lot more difficult.
@Letti1, the dates reflect the total number of nights available across different listings (I have two) so the programmers didn't actually make a mistake, it's just not at all intuitive, like the pet policy. My post was (mostly) in jest. I'm more annoyed at the acceptance rate- one of my listings is only available for select weekends (when I'm traveling) and I've had to decline four people who were requesting to break the rule (wanted to have a party or wanted to bring more than max allowed number of people). Because I only book 4/5 weekends a year, 4 denials is a large percentage and I am being penalized because I'm following the rules.
I just almost got kicked off the plane because I was laughing out loud so much. Although not a big deal if I skip this vacation. I will take another one with all the extra money I will make in September.

Hi @Giulia297 ,
airbnb is working on the calendar somehow, here's an indication that I have:
Suzanne in Wilmington posted, she had an occupany rate of 100% in June 2018 and 90% in July, she posted this on July 12. Her nightly rate was $42. Under these circumstances it was more than likely, that she would get to a 100% occupancy rate in July also.
Now ABB wrote to her and suggested, she should lower her nightly rate from $42 to $18. If You have a 100% occupancy at $42 and You lower Your price to $18, You will sure get to an occupancy rate of 500%. And this only makes sense if You have 150 days to rent in the month of july.
I'm not making this up, read the thread:

There is no doubt in my mind that they are working on the calendar. They just havent't decided yet how many days there should be in a month, something between 50 and 150 I guess. Picture this: They decide on moderate 60 days p.m., this already would double the nights bookable for each month and it would also double their revenue in service fees. This is how they prepare for the IPO.
Let's just wait and see what they come up with.
@Ute42 Here's what I get. They tell me I can boost my bookings by 199% more by chaning my prices to less than half, no mention that if I reduce my price I reduce my earning, yet my work, cleaning fees, and expenses remain the same putting me in the hole for their stay. So I am now paying for the privledge to host guests in my home. Unfortunately many new hosts don't understand this and lose money from the moment they start out believing this crap.
@Letti0 you're right that many new hosts fall for it. I had a wonderful guest stay at my tiny house. She booked on the same day of her stay and I was able to let her check-in early. She *loved* my tiny house and I spent maybe 40 minutes answering questions about it because she was thinking of building one herself. She left a glowing review but only 3 stars for value because there are cheaper places on airbnb. Note that I charge $65/night + $25 for cleaning and I'm in the most desirable part of my city and provide a "whole place" rental which includes a large yard. I leave coffee, tea, bottled water and snacks for all my guests. I have a special miniature iron/board that would work in a tiny house. That's some pretty darn good value if you ask me and you won't find anything remotely comparable in my downtown area.. but the algoritm puts my listing next to all the small listings in the countryside where taxes, insurance and land are dirt cheap (and guests have to drive 30 minutes to get to the closest shop) which gives guests the impression that I'm overcharging. Ugh.
I have so much work to get done in September- I'm so thrilled that I'll now have 50 days in September to accomplish everything, then I can get a lot more relaxation time in Oct. (unless October turns out to only have 15 days) Thank you, Airbnb!
Hi @Sarah977, and all, well nearly 2 days and a lot of fussing and moaning, I received a confirmation request for my guest on SATURDAY (oh, yeah way out of the 24-hour policy). No details... we have to work this out, but it cost me a TON in fretting and fussing over my new guest, and time with non-people/no communication at AirBnB.
Seems to be solved, but my guest is concerned about being charged twice (THIS WILL WORK OUT, and she WILL NOT BE CHARGED), but what an amazing hassle,...I'm not going into details. WHO was going to apply for the technology position? PLEASE DO IT!
There are troubles with any organization that has grown too big, too fast.
Dang... all of these new days and what to do with them? And no extra weekends? Mannnnnn!
This has been a hilarious thread, though. THANK YOU, @Giulia297.
Best,
I have made a difficult decision to leave Airbnb for good. I have been reminded by my family that extra days in September mean extra homework, extra driving kids to activities. They were all firm requiring dinners on the extra nights as well. My cleaning crew is also stretched thin by other Airbnbs they service that also have the extra nights in September and cannot give me full commitment for cleaning. Airbnb, this was a fun run and I’m sad to see it come to an end
@Giulia297 Are you aware that Airbnb calculate all your available dates as well as your booked dates of all your listings. In your case you have 2 listings so as a result Airbnb combines and display both of them together.Thank you for sharing the history of the Gregorian calendar 🙂
Hello @Giulia297, @Inna22, @Susan17, @Oomesh-Kumarsingh0, @Kimberly54, @Ute42, @Gillian19, @Letti0, @Sarah977
It is certainly a little strange that your months have grown in size! 🙂
The most logical thing here would suggest that it is combining the number of dates on all your listings, but I know a couple of you are saying you are missing a couple of days even taking this into account .
As this is on the Airbnb app, those of you who are seeing this, can I check if you are using the latest version? If not, please can you update to the latest version and see if this helps?
Speak to you soon.
Thanks,
Lizzie
