Hello experienced hosts!
We haven't run into this before but have quite a few issues with current guests and want to change their reservation and ask them to leave early. In your experience, is it best to be direct and just forthright with them about the issues or should we have Airbnb contact them to alter the reservation?
I am torn because obviously they are still in there and do not want them to damage anything on the way out and I fear I'll have no recourse for their damages, if they go that route.
To explain our issues, they let me know they have a service animal on the way down here after instant booking to arrive one hour later. The service animal is a pig. I have disabled child and am very sensitive to the needs of the disabled but this seems to be an example of people misusing that protection. We do not otherwise allow pets in our rental.
Immediately upon checking in for an 8 day reservation they asked to extend. When I let them know it wasn't possible due to other reservations, they did not respond and have not communicated with us since. They have a food truck attached to their truck which they have parked in our street. They leave everyday for work in the morning and leave the pig inside our guest cottage. I feel it is a misrepresenting the need for a service animal if it doesn't have to accompany him during his day. We are in unfamiliar territory hosting people who look like they need a place to live rather than a place to stay while visiting our area. They have orderted multiple pay per view movies without asking (I have now disabled that function).
We have been very happy with hosting via Airbnb until now but these guests have raised a number of red flags with me that make me want to figure out how to best protect against guests like this in the future.
