Hello,
We are Airbnb hosts in Spain (we are Spanish residents, nationality Belgian and Italian). However the payments from AIrbnb come from Airbnb UK, will the Brexit have any impact on our payments?
Does everyone get the payments from Airbnb UK? Or can you change it?
Thanks in advance,
Kind regards,
Kirsten
@Susan thought that you would have a good idea about exactlywhere payments are routed through to be able to answer this one 🙂
Kirsten,
First thing first.... I'm just going to view tonight's news re. Brexit!
Hi Kirsten, your country of residence, rather than your country of origin, determines the contracting entity for your payments, and it's not possible to change it.
Starting from March 25, when the new Airbnb Terms of Sevice come into force, the contracting entity for all European Union residents' transactions will be either Airbnb Payments Luxembourg or Airbnb Payments UK, as notified to users at the time of checkout, or by other appropriate means. No action needs to be taken by hosts in advance of the changeover.
As Airbnb are currently looking to recruit a Director of Operations and a Managing Director for the new EMEA Payments division in Luxembourg (where else??), it seems probable that most, if not all, payments for EU residents will be processed though there, and it's likely that the Airbnb Payments UK arm is still being included as an option, simply to cover all possible Brexit eventualities.
Thank you for the informed explanation as always!
I'd just be happy if payments continue in the same efficient way I've always experienced from Airbnb.
Indeed, for the first few years the advertized 3-5 working days always materialized in 3 days.
Then about 18 months ago, payments cleared into my bank account within 24 hours (eg. a booking on Monday, payment received on Tuesday, in bank account Wednesday).
Consequently, it's with some horror that I read on CC problems encountered in other parts of the globe.
A question that will need to be answered is, how will it impact on us all with the borderless internet, cross border Trade & other agreements with Privacy, Data Security and the like.
It's like going into a rabbit warren or maize field...
It's a concern that one great big fat computer / internet manufacturer owns so much software, communications avenues we have been placed in a situation to rely on in our lives.
Remember the simple days of Bush Telegraph, where people spoke face to face or wrote a letter with a postage stamp on that gave folk something to talk about & united us all?
Now it's just a machine, no real identity but a "brand".
