Credit Card Decline

So I recently received an email from Airbnb with regards to the reservation that was held at my place. I got paid out in the end so all went well but here's how it went. The person reserved the place through instant booking, the payment went through, he checked in and the night of the check in Airbnb messaged me that the card has declined. This was eventually fixed but I felt that I would be at a complete loss if this guest was just staying for one night, left in the morning and I had no way of selling the night or getting the money.

I'm looking to learn how the credit card processing works within Airbnb. Anyone with this knowledge, please respond.

Sorry, I don't have knowledge about how credit card processing works with Airbnb.  I do know that when a reservation is made, the money is charged to to the card once it's made.  Airbnb should be able to answer your question.

Here's a good example of a post that gets buried in all the other posts on this new forum.  This new "community" does not create community.

My experience shows that they do a test run on credit cards as most merchants do when they scan your card at a bar, but that only shows that the card will approve for $1 or some other amount they set up.  If they book with a gift card with only a couple dollars remaining on it, and then airbnb tries to collect the day after check in, it is to late, and essentially, they stay for free.  Thats not good and thats another reason why I require at least a 2 night minimum.  Whats worse is when you reserve a long term stay and the guests credit card credit line is insufficient for the amount of the reservation.  What happens when the payout is $6000 but the guests credit line is only good for $2500?

This is not correct..   Every guest that books with us through ABNB gets charged in full when they book.. Not every so often we will get a message when we click we confirm the booking that says airbnb could not collect payment from the guest..  (that means payment in Full)

Those are the ones to be suspicous of ..

Sorry and good luck - Airbnb it totally unresponsive. Impossible to connect with any form of customer service

in my experience as a guest I'm charged 100pct at time of booking. I'm going to UK in Aug snd reserved in Feb and had to fork out thousands months before trip.

Also I have found customer derive excellent by phone and Twitter.

I tried to book a place to stay that was under 80.00 and my credit card was declined.. 3 times.

I called the card issuer.  I was informed that they tried to put a 999.00 hold on it the first time, and similiar amounts every time I retried it.. of course, it was declined. Not that much $ available on it..

I don't see any other way to pay at this point.
