My mom is the owner and taxpayer on our account. I'm the webhost. The earnings summary has my name on it, not hers. It this going to be okay when she submits it to her taxperson?
Your mom need to setup her own Airbnb account, and you can be the co-host (managing the property). Now you are the host (and considered to be the owner/taxpayer).
Thanks for the response, Emiel. I'm not sure this will work because mom's almost 80 and not computer literate enough to be on Airbnb. She's quite spry though and manages the property onsite with my sister and our housecleaner's help. None of whom are computer literate.
But it's her that's receiving the payouts and paying the expenses and everything through a business account at her bank. She lives in California (northern); I live in Hawaii.
You can setup an account for your mother, just for legal puposes. Then you act as her co-host with your personal account, so she has almost nothing to do regarding "computer work". I assume now your mother's bankaccount details are in your Airbnb account (the payment method), so things are now mixing up, creating the difficulties you experienced.
Well this sounds reasonable but would I have to start all over again or can I transition my existing account? Do you or anyone have instructions for this or can you direct me?
