Exterior remote lock for extreme cold?

Exterior remote lock for extreme cold?

Hello,

I'm quickly trying to set up my condo for Airbnb and don't have a lot of time to read through all the previous discussions to come up with best exterior lock that can have codes set from approximately 500 km away.  I now live that far away.  I don't know much of anything about this topic, other than I'd need to have wifi enabled device or add something to the system to pair that.  Also, the rental unit is located in the cold Canadian prairies, where temps can get as low as -40C at times.  The door/lock is located on the exterior door.  I really don't care about me or guests being able to unlock the door with a smartphone.  I just want a solid programmable lock, that withstands extreme cold temperatures, with a preference for one that I can program codes from 500 km distance.  If it would be most economical, and I'd get a much better working lock, I suppose I could do without the long distance remote code change, and have a local friend simply change the code manually periodically.

Any suggestions of the best lock for me to purchase?  Thanks!

@Melody43 - You should do your own research to make sure all your needs are met.  Including that remote sets require constant wifi and internet connections.

Here are some resources:

From Consumer Reports:

These models do more than lock doors, offering remote control, voice control, access logs, geofencing, and other smart features. However, to use them all you’ll need a separate WiFi hub or bridge that transmits the signal from the lock to your wireless router, and that costs extra. Some models completely replace your existing deadbolt, while others convert existing deadbolts into smart locks.

Pros: Add convenience and—with optional WiFi connectivity—peace of mind through remote control, access logs, and other smart features.

Cons: Just as susceptible to forced entry as non-connected locks, and potentially vulnerable to digital hacks. Require extra hardware for remote features. More expensive than conventional deadbolt locks.

I've read some other hosts use August Home with the keypad attachment for codes and they seem to have good luck.

I'm in a similar situation and doing some research too.   I'll add more as find out more information
