I just had a guest cancel on me an hour before the 24 hour cancellation period. I had already paid for the cleaner to go in this morning. Because I have a flexible cancellation policy and am I out luck on any recovery? The guest lied to me about why the cancelled. Said the game they were coming to see was cancelled. That is just not true.

if they followed your cancellation policy there is nothing to report. He can lie, tell the truth or say nothing- he followed your policy. Obvious advise would be to upgrade your policy to the next level and then make case by case decisions if you want to let someone off the hook
Well, it's still a scummy thing to do, cancel an hour before the policy kicks in and after he asked me for recommendations and I spent about 15 minutes sending him them...I hope karma catches up to them and no other hosts get shafted.
