Guest fixing things

I have a guest apartment downstairs.  Last night I heard pounding.  I went downstairs to see if the noise came from there.

Turns out that the bathroom door had a "squeak" and he had bought lubricant and was oiling the hinges.  Since the hinges were on the other side of the door I don't know why the pounding noise.

I went to check on it this morning and there are black marks all around the hinges.  I have no idea what lubricant he used.

Mind you, they made no request about the squeak before this.  I have a good oil to use had I known there was a problem.

What should I do or say?

@Rita504 Have they checked out, or were you just checking on them? If they have not checked out, I would probably just politely say that if they have any more suggestions for things that need to be fixed, to let you know about it. I would probably word it something like, "Thanks, but you didn't have to do that! I'd be happy to take care of any issues for you."

If they have checked out, I would let it go. It really sounds like their hearts were in the right place. We should all be so lucky to have guests fixing stuff rather than breaking stuff!

Thank you.

She talked to me more about it.  Turns out the pounding noise was him trying to take the pins out of the hinges!  Oy!

In any case, while they were gone I oiled the hinges properly.

It's an interesting couple.
