We are relatively new owners. A recent guest left us a review, however, we weren't exactly pleased with the condition in which they left our home. They left footprint stains on the carpet and tried to hide it by moving a throw rug to cover the mess. We expect normal wear and tear, but the attempt to hide the problem is what concerns us. We are struggling with how to handle giving them a review. Should we simply not give one? Is it a problem or frowned upon by Airbnb to not give a guest review when they have given us one? We welcome any suggestions or advice.
Thank you!
@Peggy144 it is not frown upon by Airbnb if you don't leave a review but I would suggest writing an honest one just to warn other hosts about that guest.
It is helpful to read reviews in order to make decisions based on other hosts experiences with the guest.
As for the stains in the carpet, if it is something that would cost you some extra money and time to clean, you could request that money to the guest through Airbnb, of course. I would not give a negative review because of that, especially if you dont have any more complaints regarding the guest.
I have had guests making very stupid decisions because they were embarrased and I am talking about adult couples.
This particular one couldnt find a bottle opener even though it was literally right in front of him. Anyway, instead of calling me to ask, he decided to open the bottle with a knive. Well, the whole kitchen walls and ceiling looked a murder scene especially after his attempt to clean it.
I just painted it and moved on. I am pretty sure he must have been ashamed, he left a brilliant review of my place..(he better!!) 🙂
Hi @Peggy144 🙂
Always leave an honest review. You can read a lot about leaving a review here :

@Peggy144 If they were otherwise good guests, I'd not mention this in the public review (and you should write a review, it's important for other hosts). I'd be inclined to give a decent review (assuming they left the place clean, were otherwise respectful and communicated well regarding arrival time, etc.) but mention it in private feedback, thanking them for their stay and saying that I realize they may just have been embarrassed about the carpet stain, but that letting the host know about such things, in case it requires special cleaning before the next guest arrives, is the proper protocol, rather than covering it up with the throw rug, as if you'd never notice.
