Guests Backed into Neighbours Fence

Guests Backed into Neighbours Fence

Hello Everyone,

My neighbour informed me last night that one of my guests (who left a week and a half ago) backed into her fence, and two posts needed to be replaced. The work was done early this morning by her grandson, so the cost would only be for a bag of concrete, and she seemed rather noncommittal on even charging me for that. Do you think it would be worthwhile to start a claim with Airbnb, just in the off chance that it does escalate? Would it matter, since they don't have receipts, and I didn't get any pictures of the damage before it was repaired? I'm really not too worried about it, since I'm on good terms with the neighbour, but I've never dealt with this before. Should I, at the very least, message the guest to let them know? He might not have realised there was any damage. You couldn't tell unless you wiggled the post. He was a great guest otherwise.

Thanks!

Steve

I'm not a lawyer... but I would leave it at that. Buy your neighbour a bunch of flowers (write them off if you can), and say no more other than another apology. You have no evidence, I doubt your neighbour does, Airbnb won't do anything without proof.

Move on to your next guests and whatever else fills your time!

Thanks Ben! That's kinda what I was thinking. Like I said, I'm not too worried about it, but I've never dealt with this before.

Hi @Steve2743@Ben205,

From what I understand, between my homeowners insurance and AirBnB, outside of the house is not covered.

So.... raise your rates?, be more discerning of who you allow into your home... and like Ben said, buy some flowers for your neighbor! 🙂  Unless you really like fighting, this problem sounds like yours.  Fix it and be more careful.  JUST my advice.

Good time to review AirBnB policies.  They ask you to talk to your neighbors, know the local laws, etc, etc (there are a lot of etc's!)

Bummer, but ultimately, you are in control of who comes into your home and what they do there.  You can be kind, clear, and firm about policy.  Your house, your rules.

I once watched one of my neighbors guests check out, put their luggage in their car, back up and run over their mailbox, and then drive off as if nothing had happened.

It's not my mailbox. It wasn't my guest. I didn't say anything.

Who knows.... maybe it wasn't an accident?

@Mark26, once upon a time... not your guest, not your mailbox...and you didn't report it to the proper authorities, it doesn't belong here.

Wow!  Not your guest, mailbox or property so you didn't say anything...  Seriously?  Hope your neighbors don't take the same point of view when they see things happen on your properties!
