Guests' train appears scheduled to arrive 3 hours earlier than they think it does

Greetings from Chicago.

I have two guests,  retired teachers from Mexico,  arriving tomorrow--  booked yesterday,  new Airbnbers,   English appears very limited -- I had to translate instructions after sending.

They appear to believe they will get here 12:30p but I asked about where they were coming from etc and when I checked the Amtrak schedule,  it appears they will arrive 9:40a.   I've messaged to check,  but they may be asleep on the train.

If I don't hear back from them,  I'll try to follow up with options-- however,  while my spanish is fine,  it's clear they don't have Google Maps Uber/Lyft etc (I gave them turn-by-turn directions).   I'm away in the morning for an appointment and our cleaners is not scheduled to arrive until 12:30p.

Genuinely,  I don't think they'll be able to get in and find their room without personal attention,  and they may get lost on the way here (I was hoping to head to meet them,  given what I've gathered).

If anyone is out there,   do you have thoughts or ideas on what I might message,  to make this a better experience for guest in this position / avoid disaster?

Gracias a todos!

Good luck @Kenneth12, for I have no Spanish;  but if I reply, this should assist with raising your threads profile.

They haven't replied,  so best I have at this hour is "it looks like your train gets in earlier.   If so,  unfortunately,  our cleaners will not be here until 12:30 de la tarde and I can't have the room ready until 14:00 de la tarde.    There are cafes and lounges at Union Station and nearby,   as well as ... Coffee one block further to the West ..."

Thanks @Cathie19 .

I think that’s all you can do @Kenneth12. If you hadn’t organised an early check in with them, then just be super friendly, but stay firm, and let your cleaner know they may rock up a little early, but not to let them in. Send the message also to your cleaner to pass on if they do.

@Cathie19 :  and other guests!

@Kenneth12 did they arrive earlier as you suspected? 🙂

Just checked again and their train appears 4 hours late now,   the other scenario I was worried about (and that seems normal with Amtrak).

Welcome to the United States,  the Greatest Country on Earth.  Ви благодарам,  @Ana1136.  (Oh that's so close to Bulgarian,  but not quite the same!).

Благодарам @Kenneth12 🙂 Yes both languages are quite similar, in fact Macedonian is quite similar with all the other languages in Yugoslavia. I hope your guests will manage the check in successfully.

@Kenneth12  oh yes, Spanish speaking elderly guests... we had a few of those  ;D 😄

Inform your cleaner and tell her not to let them in before the check-in time.

Keep all your messages VERY simple. Short sentences, basic words.  When you meet them use your hands to point all important things such as locks, keys, heating.... and smile 🙂 Google translator is your friend.

Good luck. Uff...

Hey,   I can lecture for 3 hours in Spanish on economic theory,    but words for common things like estufa y horno?   Dios.

(I can't remember those in most languages I know ... heading to check them in Czech,  Polish and Croatian... one day I'll make it back to Zagreb ... nadam se :).

LOL @Kenneth12 , the basic thing every man needs 😄 FOOD

da, da, štednjak i pećnica ... easy peasy Croatian hehe if you ever come to Zagreb gimme a call 🙂

It could be that they were forwarned of the delays that you're aware of now, or that they knew they'd arrive early and already planned to look around town and have lunch before arriving at your place. I'm not familiar with trains in your part of the colonies but you say that's normal with the local train service (British humour). Let us know how it turns out. Happy hosting!

Hello @Bryan10 :  appeciate the humour which required no explanation;  just wrote a longer response which was lost in the chaos of ABB's forum tools as I tried to find your listing-- which no longer seems to work.  So more briefly,  since we're here:
do you perhaps have availability on the night of the 4th June?  Since ABB seems to no longer be linking listings from our profiles (grump grump),  can you provide a link or other way to find your listings to see if they are appropriate for us?  (FWIW:  heading to Portsmouth harbour on the evening of the 5th,  for the crossing to Caen).

A bit more simply:  I no longer see a way to get from user profiles to users' listings.    Am I missing something at this late hour here?   Otherwise,  a bit of thanks and respect,  for the unique and special relationship,   between our nations.

@Kenneth12

jesus... up until a few days ago, I could see host's listings if I clicked on his profile picture/view Airbnb profile and there it was. Now is gone! Unbelievable !

Hi @Kenneth12  thanks and good to be in touch!  My lisiting is currently snoozed due to having a friend living in my spare room, ie my normal Airbnb room.  So I'm sorry it's not available for you on 4 June. It's called 'double room in a shared house' if you can find it - and it would be great to host you another time. Happy travels to the UK! Bryan xx
