Does anyone else here have a space that is a studio? My place is a 30’x30’ guest space over a detached garage. The bathroom is the only space that is in a separate room. I’m getting conflicting advice on how to set up the space. I want to put the bed in one of the corners to make it feel cozy and somewhat private. There will be room to access bed from both sides, it’s not up against a wall. I’ve had a few people say the bed should be the focal point and to put it centered on the wall across from the entrance. I get that in a dedicated bedroom but it feels odd in a space that is also for dining and socializing. This is a space for couples usually as there is just the one bed. Although there is also a sofa sleeper, but I’m focusing on couples.Pics show space asit is currently.C2803CB4-F9C0-4B5D-8DB4-B97C393CF648.jpeg

It looks fine to me.  Is that the bathroom door just next to the bed? - perfect.  In answer to your other question, if that bit of counter whee the 2 stools are is the only overhanging bit then no, its not big enough for 4 people to actually sit & eat.  If you don't want guests eating off their laps on your sofa & chairs, I'd provide a table.

Kathie, thanks for your reply. Yes, that is the bathroom door.

The kitchen is getting remodeled, hence the question as to layout as I don’t want to redo the kitchen and find I should have moved it within the space.  I have a dining table in storage that will be moved in once the kitchen is re-done.

Here is my hopeful final layout.

@Annette76 how much is the kitchen being redone??

Given no issues with plumbing or electrical then personally I'd prefer to tuck the bed into the niche where the kitchen is currently shown, but I like a nice dark sleep when I go off to bed (which is often earlier at night and later in the morning than my husband's sleep schedule would dictate)

But, if the kitchen does need to stay where it is, then I might put the bed where the two chairs are shown bc then you could curtain it off somewhat without blocking access to the bathroom or porch.

I understand that you're saying for couples... BUT if you had a daybed instead of the two club chairs then you could sleep a couple plus a little kid or two OR a group of 4 girlfriends...

the living space is really spacious for just two people, by my count you have 14 various seating spots inside plus another 6 on the porch, so I'd re-think the furniture or your ideal guest count. A couple can't possibly sit in that many seats.

My space is a 1300sqft open plan repurposed barn, we vary between single business travelers to 10 bachelorettes.

And those are all just "what if" suggestions, I don't think there's anything "wrong" with the way you have it now. Go with what you like.

Looks lovely as it is!! Before seeing the photos I was thinking it was going to be a very small space and would have recommended you search '24 hippy bedroom ideas' (curtains, hanging lighting and wall art being effective in making an area stand out and peopel go there more for an experience as opposed to be ing concerned about the space aspect of things.

With yours as it is now, you could possibly divide it up more with shelving or bookcases to give a feel of a bigger space, but I'd be very happy staying in it as it is 😉

All the best witht your project,

@Annette76  What a really nice bright clean place!!! lovely..........I have a cottage that's 20X20 400 sq. ft.

so I understand you are getting conflicting ideas and comments. I would change it up.  I have two different ideas.....I would put the bed up against that wall almost by that window across from the entrance . I would not angle it out from the corner and lose all that space - and also probably not put the dresser at the foot of the bed.

Also, looks like there's a lot of space opposite the kitchen....where you have the other sitting/bed area now.  I would think that corner with the two windows would be lovely to make the main bedroom and use that dresser and put one of the room dividers with the basket/cubes to store things like games/books/all the things on top of the dresser .....and it will divide the space up.   I would NOT put 2 sitting areas and would also put away some of the very many smaller tables and things. also I think the quilt is beautiful but I wouldn't hang it as it appears to make the space smaller....I'd leave the beautiful bed open with the wood or at most hang some lace or very light weight fabric.

That's my take on it. I'm sure its great fun in arranging and getting to pick and choose what you'll do and where. Keep us posted and happy hosting. Clara
