I have experienced an upsetting Airbnb situation tonight. I was waiting for the early a.m. arrival of a guest. *** texted at 11:33pm that he was on the way from the airport. At 11:52pm, he texted, "You are going to pay for my entire trip including airfare. My corporate attorneys are going to drag this out for years until you foreclose." I texted, "I am not sure why you are texting me about foreclosure." I texted him again at 12:30am that the front door was unlocked for him. He replied at 1:05am with this text. "I've checked into The Highland which you will be paying for. Have a great evening. We will be in touch."
This guest seems unstable, unpredictable and hostile. I would appreciate your support.
Sounds like a mad person - contact AirBnB and keep all correspondence with this guest on the platform. Weird to say the least.
Also strange that based on his crazy message to you, you then told him the door was unlocked for him to come in?
Are we hearing the full story?
I initially thought the guest had texted me by mistake. Possibly he thought he was texting someone else about a foreclosure.
I often unlock the door for a guest when I am sure they are about to arrive. I have had a stroke and I am very slow to come to the door. After his last text, I was certain that he was conniving and possibly trying to extract money. I never met this guest. I never heard or saw him come to my apartment.
@Karen85, apologies for my earlier comment. It sounds like you've dodged a bullet with that odd guest. It would be interesting to know what *his* deal was, but I suppose we'll never know.
That was my impression from your first post. Possibly someone who thinks that he is dealing with Airbnb as a corporate and not an individual host? Perhaps send him a message (for the record) expressing your confusion and advising him to contact Airbnb's headquarters if he is unhappy.
