I had a guest message me once like five minutes before he originally said he would show up saying he wasn't going to be in town after all. He didn't cancel because I have a strict cancel policy..so the review deal came up. I said nothing to him when he cancelled except thanks for letting me know he wasn't coming. I also did not leave a review and he did not either. I have learned if you don't first leave a review, most people don't review back. I don't know if that's across the board how it goes, but my review once I get the prompt usually gets the guest to review me back. If I don't do it, I don't get a review. One time I did, which surprised me because he wasn't the best guest I have ever had but he left me a great review...he reviewed me so I reviewed him. I waited on that one because I needed time to put something in words that was not bothered but objective lol.
You never know how people will review you. When I first started hosting I was thinking it'd be awesome if I got 4 stars....I had no ldea 4 stars was bad in airbnbland!!! I think most guests think the same way- four stars is great. We hosts know better...but don't poke the bear, as they say, because you may not get what you are seeking review-wise.
