I am a host in Paris with hundreds of guests.
It is clearly stated that turning on "Instant book" enables me to cancel for any reason. I never really use it. I tried lately, and I get a really aggressive message stating I will pay penalties, loose privileges, that I'm being a bad bad host and that I'm probably going to hell.
I'm more than annoyed.
The cancellation was requested within 1 hour of the booking. The booking is in 2.5 months.
The amount of work put in, to get misled and then threatened is just baffling.
Even if this gets resolved, I would strongly suggest
1. revising the info given to hosts who turn on instant booking
2. really changing the tone and content of the cancellation message.
Ultimately this is my apartment and although good business practices are in order, airbnb really needs to factor these things in.
