Insurance

Hi I'm Joe and I host in Ireland , my house insurance was expiring and I went to renew it , when I told them that I was an Air BnB host they dropped me, I went to my broker and told them this And she looked in on this and told me that no one will cover me because I'm a high risk for hosting, I could not believe this . I got really annoyed and walked out, I ended out buying insurance on line and told them that I was retired and did not mention air bnb ,
Has this happen to any one else ? I like to know who said honesty is the best policy ?

I just discovered Proper Insurance, which is an affiliate of Lloyd's of London.  They specialize in insurance for the owners of short-term rental property.  In my case it was just what I needed.  I can't post a link here, but you can find by googling. They are active in many countries.

Hello, everyone.  I am in a similar situation to the host who started this conversation. I own my home in Canada and now that it's time to renew my contents insurance, the insurance companies won't have anything to do with customers who rent out through Airbnb.

I had a long discussion with one insurance agent, who suggested that I might have to get "specialty insurance" which apparently is very expensive. Now I have to spend my day on the phone calling insurance companies. The agent also mentioned that she just attended an insurance conference where the topic of Airbnb came up. Apparently the insurers realize they are missing the boat on opportunities for coverage, but they haven't done anything about it yet.

You mentioned Lloyds of London. Is that basic coverage or specialty? Is it outrageously expensive?

Thanks for your advice,

Linda
