LANGUAGE & COMMUNICATION ISSUE

Hello All:

I have an upcoming Guest + 1 (10/29) from Argentina but do not speak Spanish myself. There seems to be a miscommunication when she emails me... I am renting out the Entire Home and since I do not know the time of their arrival, I've asked twice, I have provided a Lockbox with the Keys to the apartment conveniently placed outside of the main entrance. I send a picture and give them the Code before the come. The Guest however seems to not understand and is asking me "where can she purchase one online?"... Her English is not good and I do not want her to buy anything!  I will be traveling on the same day she arrives. The Lockbox is a convenience just in case I leave before she arrives.

How can I be certain she understands that All is Ready for her Arrival and she does not need to do anything but show up!?

Hi Henry, my suggestion would be use one of the english to spanish translators online. Simply type in your explantion to her and convert to spanish, then copy and pasyebin email to her. I hope this helps.

Just use simple straightforward english and translate to Spanish using google translate. If you want you can then translate the spanish back to english just to see if your message makes sense. Good luck.

Google translate and similar software isn't always that great. Hopefully in a multicultural city like New York you will know someone who speaks Spanish.

I would ask them to translate instructions simply and  clearly to avoid any confusion and include photos to show they guest how it works.

You can also do this for key items in the house such as the cooker, heating etc.

Alternatively I am sure you can advertise for a student or Spanish speaker to do this for a small fee (business deductable expense)

You can then use the information for other Spanish speakers who visit.

Thank you! I got a Spanish speaking friend to write a clear message on my behalf but the upcoming guest has not responded... Hopefully she & her friend will get the messages and all will be ok!?
