I am finding that Airbnb is making changes that consistently support guests and leave hosts to fend for themselves. The latest is the result of a conversation I had with support!
It would seem that a guest is able to book TWO host spaces for the same time period! Then they can cancel one and get a complete refund. Long term reservations can be cancelled up to 28 days before the check in date. So if the guest has booked two spaces, there is one host who can lose all kinds of reservations if the long term reservation is made well in advance and then cancelled 28 days prior to check in.
If a host cancels a reservation there is a notice sent by Airbnb to your reviews that you cancelled a reservation....this alerts future guests. However, if a guest cancels a reservation, no notice is sent to alert future hosts! So a guest can double book, cancel one reservation, receive a refund and there is no consequence. Meanwhile, the hosts are caught!
