Eliz's thread about "Constant Complaints" was apparently closed-down by Lizzie this afternoon just when many contributors were beginning to enjoy themselves and have fun on the forum. Is fun now not allowed?
Best thread ever! Susan from Dublin said as did a few others. Who whined?
Could it be that Lizzie caved to complaints from some of the posters that took umbrage with Eliz's post and the direction the thread took?
Was Lizzie bombarded by PM's complaining about the thread? You can read back and find the posts where members wrote that they can't believe Lizzie did not step in to what . . . stop the carnage, salve the bruised egos that took the thread down the Overwrought Road. Lol
This is what Lizzie said, "Thank you for your time and I think we have slightly exhausted this discussion here, so I am going to close this now. "
https://community.withairbnb.com/t5/Hosting/Airbnb-Hosts-constant-complaints/m-p/732384#M172672
Lizzie also said in the same post, this: "As I have mentioned before, we all have the power to mould and create the great conversations we have here, so I encourage you to start some great topics that you feel passionate about."
I feel passionate about censorship. I don't like it.
What about the posters who were enjoying the thread and felt passionately about it? Ute and others were trying to maintain the thread and let it morph into what it would become given time. Read Ute's comments on page seven.
Lizzie used a lot of words just to get to her point: she was shutting down the thread.
WelI, I hope Lizzie uses a few words here to explain to the posters who wer enjoying contributing to the thread and obviousely, vocally, did not want it to end. What led to her decision? Did some members complain? Will wee be seeing other threads shut down as well if someone complains. Under which policy did she close it? What terms or conditions did it violate?
This is what Rebbecca wrote a few day ago on the thread in question:
"To Lizzie and all the mods: I am surprised Elizabeth's attacks on me are being allowed to stand, and no intervention has been forthcoming. This gives me much to think about in regard to whether I will choose to continue participating in these forums. Very disappointing. Even ironic, given I am the host featured in the current Community Spotlight. Life is full of surprises, and so are these forums. And not always the good kind."
Truly, truly this is a pathetic attempt to throttle voices at the request of other voices.
Join the discussion.
Did they ever escape? Lol
Your interpretation of the data I brought up is as valid as mine but neither more nor less valid.
I too pass over far more posts than I comment on based on my interest and whether or not I have anything of value to ad.
The data does show that people have an interest in this thread by the number of views. I guess we can agree on that. And we both dislike censorship. Agreed.
So, people, listen up: if you don't have enough drama in your life, com'on down, we got drama galore. Lol
I caught this glorious creature out my window on my camera. See, we both like red.

@John1574 Ummmm John - if you're going to quote me, at least do so in context. I also said...
"This thread has it all... irony, hypocrisy, narcissism, veiled threats, subtle (and not so subtle!) insults, alleged personal attacks, blind denial, bias, double-entendres, bullying, delusion, jaw-dropping arrogance.... Priceless! The 'I'm alright Jack's playing an absolute blinder, there... loving that community spirit!"
I guess you missed my point...
The *only* reason I found it even remotely entertaining was that it showed up this 'Community' Centre - in high definition - for the intolerant, blinkered, misinformed, biased, clique-y, malfunctioning echo chamber that I had claimed it to be in another post, just hours earlier. I honestly couldn't have dreamed up a more (in)appropriate thread to perfectly illustrate my points. At first, I genuinely thought the 0P was being satirical, or that Emily had somehow hacked into Elizabeth's account and was up to a bit of scallywagging. Then the penny slowly started to drop that, nope - these people were actually serious....
So just to clarify - the thread in question was as preposterous, as it was reprehensible. A crystal clear example of how a very tiny core group of self-appointed 'Guardians of the Forum and Defenders of the Realm get their buzz from acting as thought-police and word-police for the rest of the 445,000+ members of this 'Community', and appear to be of the belief that they're somehow qualified and entitled to ridicule, bully, silence, shut down and ludicrously, even banish from *their* forum, anyone whose views, opinions and experiences don't tally exactly with their own rose-tinted, self-absorbed perspectives. There's a word for that kind of behaviour, and it sure as sh*t ain't 'inclusive'. Some of you guys need to go and look up the definition of 'Community' again. It certainly isn't, "I'm alright Jack, so anyone who isn't feeling quite so smug and self-satisfied as me, needs to eff right off, lest they upset *my* fuzzy-warm fantasy world"
The ugliest aspect of that entire thread - and indeed this one - was the shameful, contemptuous, bullying treatment of @Rebecca181 - ironically, far and away the most perceptive, savvy, knowledgeable member of this group. Rather than blindly regurgitating gossip, rumours, outdated info and the (very) occasional morsels of self-serving 'updates' Airbnb likes to drip-feed its breathless missionaries through the medium of the CC, Rebecca is one of the few who actually does her research, before expressing her educated and insightful opinion. She checks her facts. Then she double-checks her facts. She sees the bigger picture, and comprehends how current and imminent Airbnb host-punitive practices and policies will ultimately negatively impact *every* host - even those who are still under the illusion that they're sitting pretty in their ivory towers right now. That's the nice, community-spirited thing about Rebecca though - it's not all 'Me, Me, Me' with her. She stops to consider how issues and changes will affect the *entire* host community, not just those in her own insulated little bubble. And she states solid *facts*, rather than airy-fairy fiction, straight from the annals of the Airbnb Compendium of Make Believe.
Yet in return for her tireless, herculean efforts in trying to support and inform her fellow hosts, and keep them updated, (in real time, not weeks/months after the fact) of serious and/or contentious issues that every last one of us *really* needs to know about, she gets slandered, accused of all sorts of nebulous behind-the-scenes antics, denigrated, sneered at and ridiculed, primarily - though not exclusively - by a 'select' few hosts with a sum total of less than 50 reviews and just over a year's hosting experience between the lot of them!! Now that takes a neck like the back of a jockey's ******, as we say over here.
The unbridled hubris of a tiny minority, believing they have some sort of god-given right to dictate that anyone who isn't singing and dancing to their particular Airbnb tune, must not only exit the CC immediately, but must also quit hosting altogether(!), is gob-smacking to behold. Stunning display of ignorance, arrogance, disrespect and yes, rampant narcissism, there.
But next time you cheerleaders are dishing out your (often erroneous) advice and pearls of wisdom, do try to bear in mind that many of those 'whiny, unhappy, ungrateful people' you're clamouring to have exiled and banished from Airbnb, are long-term, highly experienced hosts, who at this point, have seen and heard it all, and who actually *know* what they're talking about. You know - that small army of loyal, industrious hosts who have been grafting their arses off in Airbnb-land for the best part of a decade in some cases, each playing their own small but vital role in building and creating the goodwill and reputation that allowed Airbnb to become the highly successful platform it is today? The ones without whose years of hard graft, dedication and commitment, there'd *be* no Airbnb for *anyone* to ply their wares on in 2018... But hey, why allow those dinosaur fantasists and conspiracy theorists a voice at all - what would they know in comparison to the dynamic Go-Getter New Kids on the Block anyway... right??
Incredibly - and shockingly - the (wholly unproven) accusations against Rebecca were permitted to sail right on by, largely unchallenged, unchecked and uncorrected by the mods. Instead, we once again were palmed off with the usual happy-clappy Airbnb spiel about what an 'inclusive, empowering, welcoming space for all' the CC truly is, etc etc... prior to further discourse being shut down by the closing of the thread. So rather than being reprimanded or taken to task - as they absolutely should have been - for their vicious attacks and hateful judgements on a fellow host, it appears that those who vilified and slandered Rebecca, have simply been 'empowered' to carry on abusing her in yet more nasty, spiteful posts/threads.
Mind-blowing. Or as Sarah rightly put it - disturbing.
@Mariann4 is also correct in saying that a Private corporation should be able to run its forums any which way it likes. However, considering Airbnb's relentlessly-proclaimed 'inclusive ethos' and 'core values', one would reasonably expect their official community forum to be run fairly, firmly, and equitably, with all voices being of equal worth and value, regardless of what perspectives they're expressing. Time and time again though, threads like these would suggest the very opposite to be the reality in this CC.
Yeah, this got really weird, really fast. Can we get back to more productive hosting topics instead of bizarre, long-winded analyses of, heck, not even sure because so much was written I just skimmed it.
I appreciate all the help I get from fellow hosts in this forum, but this...this is not helpful! I stand with Rebecca on this one. Ditto what @Branka-and-Silvia0 said!
@Suzanne302 @Branka-and-Silvia0 @Mariann4 @Susan17
No one forced anyone to read or comment on this thread. I'm interested in someone who has something to say about the topic.
To say the thread is not helpful baffels me. I find it very interesting and when I get time I will read Susan's long block of text and Lizzie's too.
But I believe that you should read and comment on threads that interest you and ignore those that don't.
Commenting on a thread by saying something like "I don't like this thread and I don't find it helpful." seem like a waste of time to me.
I read and comment only on threads and posts that interest me and those on which I have something to ad.

Hi @John1574 ,
You wrote:
It's an ugly thing censoring free speech
and what ist this:
„Get off of my thread, Now!!!“
This was not „her“ thread, this was one out of a million threads posted on a forum by the name of Community Center and that belongs to airbnb.

Again, John, censorship: There are threads like this online:
„Does anyone want to join me in a lawsuit against airbnb?“
And they don't take it down. I am criticising airbnb a lot, but not for their CC. This is the most open and uncensored Forum I've seen so far. And if they do censor, like closing a thread, they are free to do so. As @Mariann4 says: They can do as they like in their own foras.
Ute (that's me) and others were trying to maintain the thread and let it morph into what it would become given time.
John, when I suggested to beat these 2 Germans with their endless thread , that was ment to be
i r o n i c
I wanted this thread come to an end, as it was going nowhere, but You didn't understand that.
what kind of person (or persons) nags and nags at a moderator to shut down free speech
What about this: Maybe noone naged on her, maybe it was just her own decision. Maybe she just had enough – could that be? Can it be that a human being screens a situation, comes to a conclusion and then executes said conclusion. I think that's not impossible.

My apologies for writing too much to hold your interest, @John1574 (but *you* tagged *me*, remember?) Anyway, let me summarise in one easy sentence for you....
Wind your bloody neck in and get off Rebecca's back.

Hello @John1574, @Mariann4, @Susan17, @Ute42, @Suzanne302, @Branka-and-Silvia0, @Elizabeth429, @Robin4, @Rebecca181, @Diego313, @Willow3, @Emily352, @Lisa723
I'm going to step back into this conversation here. This discussion has become rather personal which is not nice for those involved or for those reading it and is against our Community Center Guidelines. Also, out of respect for each community member here, I am going remove the personal remarks made.
As I mention in my reply above, the reason I had to close the other discussion was because it was no longer benefical for the health of the community and I believe this is the same here. Our comments can be very hurtful to others and it is important that we are respectful to one another.
Another reason for closing this discussion is that I have answered the original question here, which was addressed to me.
Please read my earlier comment in this thread.
Thanks for your time.
Lizzie
